Sundubu

Another thing that I wanted to try once I got to Korea was sundubu. Spicy tofu stew. Not that I really like tofu that much. But for some reason I just had to have it.

I went to the restaurant that is next door to my school. The American teacher that I replaced told me that their thing was sundubu, so I had to try it.

In most Korean restaurants, you have to take off your shoes in the entry way, sit down on a mat on the floor, and eat on a low table. That's how this one worked. It was fun to be barefoot in a restaurant!! You can't do that in America!

This is what I ate:

The spicy tofu stew is down in the right hand corner. When you order something in Korea, most of the time you get a bajillion complimentary side dishes, too. They are called banchan (which means... side dishes). This one came with a whole fish (which I had no idea what to do with, so I didn't eat it), kimchi, pumpkin, tofu, some green vegetable thing, some red dried fish/squid/something thing, and some brown thing. I ate all the brown thing and all the pumpkin, so they brought me more! That's how it works! Isn't that awesome? Guess how much this whole meal cost me? Six dollars! No tip either, they don't do that here.

Then I went shopping at Lotte again. I am still amazed every time that I go there. The Korean grocery stores in America are as big as gas stations. This store is as big as Costco. Look at how big the aisle is that is devoted entirely to SEAWEED. It's like a mile long.
